Early Saturday morning as the bus to the United Nations completed the third and final stop it filled with the excitement that only this group could bring to bare. Ninety miles away was New York City and the expectations of sharing Rotary at UN Day with Interactors from across the country.
The room was completely filled as thousands listened to talks given by Interactors, Rotarians, Rotary Youth Exchange students, Rotaractors, participants in RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and experts. As we left the room, many from our group picked up brochures and other materials to bring back and share with their clubs.
Box lunches and beverages were served at noon, and soon after everyone made their way to the UN gift shop.
As we bid farewell to the UN we got back on our bus and headed down to Ground Zero. The rain was on and off but that didn’t dampen the spirits of our group. The staging area at Ground Zero had been taken down so the official viewing area was off limits. From across the street we found an area which gave us a partial view of the rebuilding which was occurring.
Visiting the UN and Ground Zero were not the only experiences we shared on Saturday, November 8, 2008. Meeting new friends and sharing experiences within our group of Interactors also made the day a success.
